Inventor Has The Bright Stuff

Calgary Herald:

Tory Weber was the driving force behind Thermablade, a skate blade that heats up to create perfect skating conditions. He awaits approval from the National Hockey League.

But that’s just one of Weber’s brainchildren.

His signature already adorns dozens of patents. And he’s got another 100 projects–yes, 100–on the drawing board.

One wintry morning, Weber, then a student, tugged on sneakers (which had been warming on the heat vent) and hopped outside to get the paper. Whoosh–out went his feet. Down he went. He saw stars, but not the proverbial light bulb.

“Having taken power engineering, I thought, ‘What would happen if we heated a skate blade?’ ” he recalls. “The first guy I told, he was laughing and laughing and laughing.”

Weber scoffs at the notion that everything good has already been invented. In fact, this should be a golden age of innovation.

“It’s the best time in the world to be an inventor.”

  • That is a really cool idea for skaters. i wonder though…if the heat reaches up to the foot so that it keeps the feet warm. the few times i have been ice skating that is one thing that i noticed the most is your feet get kinda chilly…and there’s nothing worse then not being able to feel your toes.

  • that is great! i think it will be a big hit in the market coz its cool many skaters will love it and enjoy it when they used it, congrats Tory Weber for this cool and great inevention of yours, keep it up!
