Got Receipt Overload?

Inc.:

You have better things to do than hoard and sort receipts. Several companies have recently launched tools that can help you organize receipts and track expenses. These applications for financial management will be sure to keep your business running smoothly. Here’s the lowdown on three of them.

Expensify tracks every purchase made on your corporate credit cards. Users can log on to Expensify.com to see their spending sorted by category and to generate expense reports. Expensify can also take over the entire expense-reporting process and send reimbursements directly to employees. The company charges 3 percent of all transactions, and it is targeting companies with 20 or fewer employees.

Shoeboxed doesn’t eliminate the need to collect receipts, but it will take all that paper off your hands. Travelers can mail in their receipts for Shoeboxed to scan or scan the receipts themselves and upload the files. Then Shoeboxed allows users to log on, sort their purchases, and generate expense reports. Prices start at $9.95 a month, which covers up to 50 scans. Shoeboxed says its customers have up to 100 employees.

The NeatReceipts scanner is 10.8 inches long, weighs less than a pound, and can scan a tiny taxi receipt or a full-size document. Users can download the scans, organize receipts by category, and export the information into a program like Quicken. The Neat Company, which makes the $199 scanner, is targeting small companies, but the device is useful for anyone who needs a portable scanner. The latest version can even scan legal documents.
