Entrepreneur Creates Spill-Resistant Martini Glasses
Thanks to James Bond and Sex and the City, the martini glass is a chic pop- culture symbol. But for Renee Williams, the drink brings to mind something far-from-stylish: spills.
Not anymore. Last month, Williams launched Sipatiniz, a line of spill-resistant martini glasses.
“About two years ago, I started noticing that people carrying martini glasses were spilling their drinks,” says Williams.
“I was watching Donny Deutsch on The Big Idea. He said, if you see a problem without an answer, you’re probably not the only one,” says Williams.
“So I decided to survey my friends. I asked one question: When you think about a martini glass, what comes to mind? About 90 percent said spills. That’s when I knew I was on to something.”
The CNBC show, which dishes tools and advice for budding entrepreneurs, spurred her to take the next step. With cardboard and scissors, she created a prototype at home.
“I didn’t want to change the glass’ shape, because that’s what makes a martini,” she says.
“To keep the integrity of the glass, I decided to add a lip [along the edge] with a small opening for a straw or to sip straight out of.”

That is an awesome idea!!! i love it. not that i drink martini’s, but…i do watch quite a few show’s including “sex and the city” where martini’s seem to be quite popular, and i’ve seen quite a few people in restaurants i’ve gone to where they are drinking martini’s. carrie from sex and the city would be very excited about this new invention. :)

That is a brilliant idea! Yet another invention that causes the famous palm-to-forehead reaction while saying, “Why didn’t I think of that?”
I wonder how long it’ll take for her invention to expand into public use, such as at a high-end bar or club.

I think this is a really cool concept. Everytime I’m out with friends who order martini’s someone always spills something. I wonder if Renee will be able to get a major restaurant supply distributor interested?

If you spill your drink, maybe you’ve had one too many.

Fred, the martini glass is a very thin and sleek glass that is always filled right to the rim when you order it, it’s almost impossible to walk (while not being drunk) from the bar to your seat without spilling one drop. not to mention all the people that bump into you at bar’s and cause you to spill it.
