Thinking of launching a popcorn related business opportunity? According a report on American Popcorn, popcorn really pops in a down economy:
A fourth generation business American Popcorn, the makers of Jolly Time has survived the Great Depression and several more recessions after that.“We’ve kind of been through the tough time at least in the popcorn business,” said Garry Smith the President of American Popcorn.
But one thing that always pops up in a down economy is popcorn.
“The entire microwave popcorn category and home consumption of popcorn is up and it’s up because people are staying home and they’re entertaining themselves at home and when they do, they do entertain themselves with popcorn,” said Smith.

It makes sense that a popcorn company would do vey well even during and especially during a recession. Everyone will still want snacks from time to time even through a recession time, people are opting to stay at home watching tv or a rented movie and snacking versus spending high amounts at the theaters…so they probably buy a lot more popcorn to pop at home for that reason.
