PC World:

Whether your boss finally gave you the green light to telecommute or you’re setting out to do business on your own, congratulations–and welcome to the wonderful world of working at home.

Just one wrinkle: the kids. As in so many other areas of life, having a rugrat or two underfoot can make doing what you want and need to do a lot more challenging.

Those noisy, messy, curious, demanding little treasures can level a home office faster than Cookie Monster can take out a gingerbread house.

Fortunately, there are ways to work around home-office threats, both to children and by children. Here are ten essential steps to take:

1. Create a Separate Space

2. Set Ground Rules

3. Beat Back Kid Noise

4. Install a Kidcam

5. Kidproof Your Workspace

6. Lock Down Your Keyboard

7. Protect Pushable PC Buttons

8. Kidproof Your Software

9. Bookmark Kid-Friendly Search Engines

10. Block the Bad Stuff From the Web

  • LOL, that is all very true about having our little rug rat treasures at home while we are trying to work! mine is only 9 month’s, but even so, he can be very destructive when he wants to be. there is nothing worse then to be in the middle of work and have him come up and rip on the cord to my computer which sends my computer flying off my lap and ultimately closes ending all work that i was doing.
