Sherra Koerselman-Meyers, Editor & Co-Publisher of Southern Bride Magazine

Memphis Commercial Appeal:

For Sherra Koerselman-Meyers, every day is wedding day. This Memphis mom of two boys — Jory, 8, and Devin, 5 — is the editor and co-publisher of Southern Bride Magazine and the new Romantic Destinations digital magazine (romanticdestinationstravel.com). An avid skier, tennis player and traveler, she and her husband, Ross, a physicians service representative with Challenger Corp., had their first child when she was 36. As a working mother, she says she constantly wrestles with “the guilt I put myself through thinking I should be home when they get out of school.” Still, she says being a mother tops the life-experience ladder. “I wouldn’t trade it for the world!” She recently answered questions from Midsouthmoms.com

How did you get involved in publishing?

My mother and her business partner used to own Southern Bride. I started out working as an advertising sales representative and then finished my graphic arts classes and provided the graphic design layout for the magazine, while I was finishing my journalism degree at the University of Memphis. A couple of years later my business partner, Lynn Walker, and I purchased the magazine. We celebrate 10 years this year.

What advice would you give other working moms trying to balance job and family?

Keep your priorities in order … family always comes first. You must be organized — this will make your life much easier.
