Everyone who has ever owned a computer will tell you that it is a pain to upgrade and back them up, even more so if you are a business and have several different computers to deal with. Below are a few ideas found on Small Biz Technology on upgrading your computer systems without wanting to rip your hair out at the end of the process.

If you have several computers throughout your office, try to pick one style/brand of computer and stick to that throughout the office. Having one type of computer in every personal office will make your upgrading tasks alot easier as you will only need one set of the same software.

One thing I am considering, is downloading all the programs I need onto an external hard disk, so the next time I switch computers – about every 2 – 3 years, I can access them more easily. I use Carbonite to backup all my files and I know that if I have to I can always restore my files, via the Internet, using Carbonite.

If you save your files to a central server, that will greatly reduce the frustration and time of swaping files from computer to computer. When wanting to move your email accounts to a new computer try using Microsoft. That way once you install it on your new computer you have the tools to move all your contacts to the new computer via Microsoft.

How has upgrading your computer system proved to be a hassle for you?
