Bellevue Mom Builds Hit Web Business
A Bellevue stay-at-home mom has turned a simple sale into a million-dollar success story.
Belinda North used her daughter’s sense of style and the adorable clothes she wore into a Web site that finds and resells a wide variety of clothing.
“I realized there was a little niche for us, so I started really working at finding cute boutique clothes that were affordable for girls,” North said. “I sold my first item on eBay, a used dress and it went really well.”
Two years later, sophiasstyle.com has grown into an online emporium that sells enough of those clothes to fill a warehouse. The collection quickly outgrew the North family home.
“Every room was full of boxes,” said Belinda’s husband, Jake North.
He said he left his job to help his wife with her business. It was a career move he said he never expected to make.
“Nor did my friends or my family,” he said.
The Web site now stocks hundreds of dresses and outfits and the business that Belinda North once ran out of her bedroom racked up $2 million in sales in the past year. She said her company now has 13 employees.
