The Golden Rule

We often feel that we should all follow the golden rule and we get upset when we can’t understand why others don’t feel the same way. And I’m not talking about Aladdin’s golden rule of “he who has the gold makes the rules”, I mean the “treat others as you expect to be treated. We were all taught this as kids, and now as adults we see more and more how it is vanishing.

With your customers they are not always necessarily looking for the cheapest way out of things, but rather the most convenient way of solving their problems. So, rather then giving them the golden rule type of service and finding them the cheapest solution like you would want, give them convenience instead.

Through talking with your customer, you’ll pick up on what they really want, what is really bothering them, so instead of going above and beyond what they are asking for, give them exactly what it is they want. This will keep them from wanting to strangle you because your taking 8 days of their time looking for the solution that you think they want.

I have a hard time remembering that most customers don’t want an overwhelming map of all the territory they could cover, they just want a fast map to get where they want to go.
