A San Antonio-based fast-food burger joint has left town.
Whataburger Restaurants LP, the privately-held corporation that runs the Whataburger chain of restaurants, closed 14 restaurants in the Orlando and Tampa markets — including four in Central Florida — on May 31.
The chain spent two years trying to improve the restaurants after acquiring them from a franchisee, spokeswoman Pam Cox said in an e-mail. But declining sales, poor market saturation and high operating costs led the chain to the decision to close all 14, Cox said in the response.
“Unfortunately, our efforts were unsuccessful and they’re no longer smart business investments,†Cox said in the e-mail.
