Lawyer & Business Examiner Shares Her Own 3 Tips For Mompreneurs

Like it has for many entrepreneurs, a major event caused Delida Costin to reconsider her course in life.

So she started her own private law practice.

She has not only done that and then some, she is now sharing her knowledge with others as the Starting Your Own Business Examiner for examiner.com. To get her started, she has shared some important pieces of advice for mompreneurs at the SF Single Parenting Examiner.

1. Be a copycat. Choose mentors from people who have a style that you admire. You can choose anyone . . . your mom who sets strangers at ease, your children who have engaging curiosity, or a client who has built a successful business. Observe them and try to adopt the traits that you think might work well for you.

2. Get comfortable with discomfort. An entrepreneur faces new decisions daily and the learning curve can be steep for each one. Proceed with caution, but proceed. The ability to keep producing even when you are in new territory is an important skill. Surround yourself with smart experienced people who know how to do what you are learning.

3. “Keep your eyes on the prize.” I pasted this phrase to my computer after I graduated from law school. Our lives and our careers are full and it is easy to be pulled in many directions. Step back and remind yourself of your personal and professional priorities. Then ask yourself whether your projects are supporting those priorities.
