Is it the End of Amazon’s Affiliate Program?

By on June 27, 2009 in Ideas

If you make any money from Amazon’s affiliate program and you live in North Carolina or Hawaii, I have some really bad news for you.

Amazon.com Inc. closed accounts with its affiliates in North Carolina to avoid paying a proposed sales tax, according to media reports Friday. In an email, Amazon reportedly told marketing affiliates in the state that the move was a direct result of North Carolina’s push to levy a tax on purchases made through Amazon affiliates.

Similar legislation is pending in California, and Amazon has threatened to drop the program there. If this passes in California, I might have to move my business out of the state.

A few months ago i opened a Seller Account paid the $39.99 for the Pro Subscription service then created a new catalog to sell some webcams. The next couple of days my account was blocked without a reason and I got a refund. It is too unlogical.

Unlogical is the word.. I agree. Amzon sells their own stuff, just like ebay they sell their own stuff. likes you have to compete with them. it doesn’t make sense, I made a total of $120.00 for 6 months doing amazon. it’s not for me. lol – I cannot compare amazon to what I have now.

While online business and shopping can be a great thing most times…it can also prove to be detrimental as we have seen in this post. You never know when thing’s like this are going to happen with online companies, and they generally don’t give you a warning before it hits. At least when businesses are planning on closing their doors offline, they post signs everywhere usually stating “going out of business”!
