When Someone Googles Your Name, What Do You Want to Happen?

BusinessKnowHow:

In my humble opinion, I want four (types of) things to happen:

1. SEARCH RESULTS. First and foremost. The instant barometer of your brand. Because if you don’t exist on Google, you don’t exist.

2. SILENT DIALOGUES. This comes second. This is the stuff people think when they see your name.

3. IMMEDIATE ACTION. That’s what you want to happen next. People impelled to click and explore you and your business further.

4. CONTACT. Here’s the final step. After people have Googled you, reacted and taken initial action, this is the crucial component. It’s when you compound attraction with outreach. Because ideally, you’d like people to email, call or reach out to you in SOME way.

  • Another great test is to type whatever term it is you want to be known for into the search box (example: “idea guy”) and hit the “I feel lucky” button.

Does it take you directly to YOUR site? If not, what do you need to do in order to make that a reality?

  • I always know I will be #1 on every Google/Yahoo search. Lots of other great information about me aside from my bio, a bulletin and my business card. Google Kathy Greider and click on the first entry.

  • I agree with the top comment. Your ultimate goal here is the key word or phrase that you want to speak for you and your site, if that phrase or key word does not take you right to your site, then there need to be some changes made in order to make that happen.

  • The point is my name is the Key Word. So I do come up every time it is Googled. Most people don’t care about a company name —but they want to know more about the person they work (do business)with a person they like and trust so having your name #1 is important. I can create a bio with links to all the areas of my business I want people to know about. Kathy Greider
