New DIY Solar For the Home
GreenRay is developing a do it yourself solar appliance that can plug your home into the sun. Their modular, plug-and-play AC solar panel drops the cost of solar by simplifying system design and installation. Buying a solar electric system will be as easy as buying your water heater.
Today’s photovoltaic modules generate DC power. Additional electrical components must be connected to convert this into AC power which can be used by your home or fed to the electric grid. This requires system engineering and time for installation. In comparison, GreenRay’s AC Module is an integrated system which is ready to go and no engineering required.
They’re product isn’t on the market yet, but yesterday they raised some money from The Quercus Trust, a clean-tech venture fund. The $2 million investment enables GreenRay to rapidly move ahead with manufacturing, distribution channel development, and commercial launch.

I think it’s great that producing solar energy on a small scale is becoming increasingly accessible. Using green power has become more affordable to initiate which can only be a good thing!
