Volcano Moves To Direct Sales

Sacramento Business Journal:

Intravascular ultrasound maker and distributor Volcano Corp. has terminated its distribution agreement with it’s largest distributor in Japan, Goodman Co. Ltd.

The termination agreement means Volcano can transition to a direct-sales model in Japan, which the company says is the largest intravascular ultrasound market in the world.

“We are delighted to be completing this transition nearly a year ahead of our original timetable,” Volcano president and chief executive Scott Huennekens said in a news release. “By going direct, we hope to replicate in Japan the market share gains we have achieved in our other key geographies, such as the United States and Europe.”

Huennekens said the company has 40 sales reps and 80 total employees in Japan, and expects to complete the transition to direct-sales by the end of the third quarter.
