Direct Sales Picking Up In Slow Economy

The Times-Journal:

Direct sales are filling up with representatives to bring in extra cash during the economic slowdown.

More people appear to be taking on a second job and even replacing lost jobs as representatives for Avon, Mary Kay and Tupperware.

June Brown, unit leader for District 1615, which covers DeKalb and other areas, said she has seen an increase in those wanting to jump in and sell direct.

“I’ve absolutely seen a large increase,” Brown said. “I’ve had four people from DeKalb County sign up in the last two weeks.”

Brown said the reason is simple.

“The [hosiery] mills are closing and more jobs are being lost and people are looking for ways to make money,” Brown said.

And, Brown said sellers are doing well.

“It’s very simple,” Brown said. “Avon sells itself.”
