Tribute to Billy Mays: “Hi, Billy Mays Here”

In June, Billy Mays the television direct-response advertisement salesperson well known for his introduction, “Hi, Billy Mays here,” died from an apparent heart attack.

  • He was one of the most convincing sales pitch men I have ever heard. The only product I have ever used that he pitched was OxiClean and the stuff doesn’t even work like the ‘claim’ says. All the same, he was a master salesman for sure.

  • Sadly, the news media is reporting that Billy Mays’ cocaine use contributed to his fatal heart attack on June 28, according to his autopsy. Mays had used cocaine just days before his sudden death at age 50, says the coroner’s report.

    “From the presence of metabolites of cocaine and the absence of cocaine itself, it was concluded that Mr. Mays used cocaine in the few days prior to his death but not immediately prior to death,” according to the Hillsborough County, Fla., Medical Examiner.

    While cocaine use was not the cause of Billy’s death, it was a contributing factor, the autopsy concluded. Mays suffered from heart disease, but the coroner says cocaine can raise blood pressure, causing the heart’s walls to thicken and clog the arteries.

  • I will always remember his upbeat voice and million watt smile. I still like the kaboom bathroom products. I guess we all have one problem or another. Regardless he was a fun guy and that is how most of us will remember Billy Mays.
