A Look At 2 Mom-Owned Businesses In Portland

examiner.com:

What better way to welcome your little one into the world than a handmade blanket, made right here in Portland? Here are two local mom-owned companies that are helping us moms do just that, with lots of style, too:

Cat in an Apron was founded in 2005 by Marne Maykowskyj Nordean, mom to three in NE Portland. The name Cat in an Apron may sound vaguely familiar because it’s taken from Dan Greenburg poem Don’t Dress your Cat in an Apron from the seminal Free to Be You and Me book and album released in 1972.

Another mom-owned company that offers a locally made-blanket is Plum Tot. A former teacher, Plum Tot founder Ami Roberts wanted to give her own two children the comfort of homemade blankets, so she developed the GO Blankie that’s as practical as it is beautiful. A major appeal of the GO Blankie is in its many different uses, including an outdoor play mat, stroller blanket, diaper changer, infant seat cover, baby cozy, front pack blanket, and nursing cover. If you are a hardy Portland parks adventurer, you may find yourself using the GO Blankie as all of these on the same day. True to our NW roots, the blankets have a covering of water and wind resistant nylon backing on one side so your baby will stay dry and warm on winter outings. The other side is cotton or minkie material.
