3 People Find Work In Self Employment

KETV Omaha:

Three local people have demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit by becoming their own boss developing their own products and services in tough times.

They have become a jeweler, a pampered Chef consultant and a Scentsy saleswoman. They all sell different products and said being their own boss was a good choice.

Bettina Johnson, the jeweler, said business started off slow. It has since started to grow.

“I tried to get more into weddings because people are still going to get married and they still need their jewelry,” Johnson said.

Dorie Piskorski, the Pampered Chef consultant, said business is booming precisely because the economy is not. She travels around and shows people how to cook quick, inexpensive meals.

“People are not going out to eat as often and they want to know how to cook at home,” Piskorski said.

Brenda Brockman took a chance with Scentsy, a direct sales company only five years old. But she said business is growing.

“I started last October and I now have 46 people on my team,” Brockman said.

Direct sales and home-based business isn’t for everyone. But the three said it keeps them busy and pays the bills.
