North Can Mom Enjoys Best Of Both Worlds

Canada.com:

Some people think it’s impossible to balance being a mom and a career woman — but Sandy Gerber is proving them wrong.

The Delbrook mother of two is in the running to be the 2009 SavvyMom Mom Entrepreneur of the Year, an honour that she couldn’t be happier to have.

“It’s really exciting for moms in general that they have these types of awards, because it feels like recognition that I’ve done well in both areas of my life,” says Gerber, who was nominated by her sister on Savvymom.ca, a site that provides support for mothers across Canada.

In 2004, Gerber left her executive position at BC Lotteries in favour of starting her own business.

“When my guys were really little I felt like I was missing time with them and I was trying to do career and family and I couldn’t really find that balance having a full time job with another company,” she explains, adding she considered being a stay-at-home mom but decided against it in the end.

Instead she founded 3 Kids Media, a marketing consulting company that later merged with Twist Multimedia to become 3 Degrees West in 2005.

“When I was consulting . . . I was recommended to this woman Karly Cunningham, who is my business partner now, and she worked with me on a project and we just gelled so well. We say we’re yin and yang, she’s the creative one and I’m the marketing one,” says Gerber.
