New Web Privacy Rules May Cost e-Bizs
Few people are aware of just how much personal information is collected from their daily web activity except for the online businesses that depend on that data, but Congress, however, may soon be stepping in to change that.
According to a recent article by the Associated Press, Rep. Rick Boucher, D-V.a., chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet, is drafting a bill that would place strict guidelines on the information websites collect from visitors, and the ways that information is used.
Tentative statutes in the bill may limit online marketing and advertising techniques, such as tracking web browsing habits and analyzing “shopping cart” data, which some experts say could pack quite a blow to small online retailers.
“A lot of large online retailers already have pretty extensive privacy statements.
For small businesses, it’s harder for them to create a more complex web infrastructure and to have some of the same features larger retailers have,” says Phil Hochmuth, senior analyst at the Boston-based Yankee Group.

Ok, this is part information, part shameless promotion.
My business is all about information security; from the policies, procedures, benefits, training, and management controls that businesses need to have in place to protect themselves legally with regard to the privacy laws already on the books, to the the use of social media and online services.
A privacy policy is good, but if you don’t have the proper policies and procedures in place to enforce it on the business side, you could still be vulnerable.
Now for the shameless plug: I have 22 years of experience the area of information management and data security. Recently I started my own management consulting business, and as part of that, I joined a company that provides the component I use for benefits. This is an MLM based structure, but it is one of the best I’ve seen. The initial investment is small, and there are opportunities to learn everything you need – for free! No required expensive tapes, books, and meetings (but they are available if you want to use them.)
If you are interested in helping me make a difference in the LA / Ventura County market, please contact me. There is a time-critical element to this as well; over the next 10 days, those who join will also be able to take advantage of a one-time only pre-launch event for a *second* business that has the potential to dwarf even the giants out there. It is definitely in your best interest to take a look. 10 minutes of your time could change your life.
