Green Mountain Coffee Buys Timothy’s For $157 Million

Bloomberg:

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc., the maker of Keurig single-cup coffee makers, acquired Timothy’s Coffees of the World Inc. for about $157 million in cash to expand its sales in Canada.

The acquisition will probably add 10 cents a share to earnings next year, Waterbury, Vermont-based Green Mountain said today in a statement. Timothy’s was sold by an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners Inc., a private equity firm, and the deal doesn’t include Timothy’s 139 retail stores.

The purchase is the second in the single-cup coffee market in as many weeks. Timothy’s, based in Toronto, produces packaged coffee, tea and other beverages, as well as Keurig portion packs under the Emeril’s and Kahlua brands. The acquisition gives Green Mountain a coffee-roasting plant in Canada, as well as the Timothy’s World Coffee brand and wholesale business.
