Netpreneurs Cook Up Sales For Men

al.com:

With a football game on the television and meat making its way from the grill to the mouths of the crowd gathered around the set, the only thing that separated this Man Cave “meating” from the scene repeated in most Alabama homes on game day was the halftime sales pitch.

Man Cave is a direct sales company that marries tailgating with the idea behind Tupperware parties, with a twist. These affairs take a grilling fork to the female approach to such sales parties and douse it in beer.

A pair of Minnesota entrepreneurs took the notion of the man cave– that sacrosanct room in a man’s home where he and his friends get to discuss guy stuff free of potpourri and the Lifetime channel — and turned it into a business.

Ashley Singletary, whose real job is in Internet banking at BBVA Compass, learned about Man Cave from a friend in Georgia and decided to become the company’s first representative in Alabama. After a practice session at his house with a couple of friends, he held his first official “meating,” as they’re called, at a friend’s home in Maylene last weekend.

“I liked the idea of it being a new concept,” Singletary said. “Nobody has ever done anything like this around here, so it was nice to be the first, to get in on the ground level.”
