A Wedding Buffet Of… Candy?

The Orange County Register:

Judy Pomykata was breathless with excitement. She just got the contract of her life.

Pomykata is a former event planner whose bridal clients kept asking for something different, like an open bar stocked with candy instead of vodka, scotch, wine and beer. She tried it and fell in love with the concept.

Many hours of practice helped her develop her own style until she no longer wanted to be the planner.

“I wanted to be one of the vendors and do something really creative that reflected my own flair,” she said, explaining why she closed the wedding planning business to open Classic Candy Buffet, based in her Yorba Linda home.

In the three years Pomykata has been creating candy buffets, she has expanded into birthday parties, baby showers, bar mitzvahs, private parties and corporate events. She recently did one for the Register’s employee year-end party. The waiting line was 20 minutes.

She typically does one or two a weekend, plus she’s done special events at the Honda Center, Anaheim Stadium and the Marconi Museum. One of her buffets was featured on the television show “Whose Wedding is It Anyways?”
