Winooski native Kirsten Pringle, 34, has taken her passion for antiquing and made it a full-time job. She is married to Bruce Pringle and they have two daughters, Chanda, 11, and Cassidy, 6.

Why have you started Onion River Antiques?

I have always loved antiques and shop for them all of the time. The ladies at WhistleStop Antiques on Flynn Avenue in Burlington suggested that I open my own shop or at least have my own booth in theirs. I thought about it and when a spot became available in this building my parents own I thought I would give it a try. This building used to be the old Archambault furniture store and my parents turned it into a strip mall. My mom has been working for me for literally nothing, and we’ve been working really hard to get this up and running.

How long have you been antiquing?

I have been antiquing since I was about 18. Now, I’m really paying attention to what things are worth and what to look for. It’s about finding that really great bargain. For me, it’s always just been about really liking a piece, not really about what it’s worth. I like something that’s beat up, and I like to think of where it’s been and who had it before.
