Great advise. Lack of testing and evaluation of ideas is in my opinion one of the main reasons many inventions fail.
A few other options for testing the waters on new product inventions are:
1) Selling the inventions from a website. Build the site and drive sales to it and gauge the interest level before committing to purchasing too much inventory.
2) Placing a classified ad in targeted niche magazine. You could have customers call a phone number or send them to a website.
