From Publisher To Burgermeister

Crain’s New York Business:

In this economy, going from selling ads to selling burgers isn’t a huge stretch. Daniel Magnus, the former chief executive of Metro New York, just signed a franchise deal with Elevation Burger to launch seven new outlets of the natural-food chain.

Elevation’s burgers are made from free-range, grass-fed beef. The French fries are cooked in olive oil.
Like any good marketer, Mr. Magnus did his research—visiting a branch in Montclair, N.J., and ordering the entire menu.

“One bite into that hamburger, and I knew I was going to do this,” says the former publisher, who left the free daily two years ago and has been looking for opportunities with “more stability than I had in my last career.”
