Postbulletin.com:
As they did in the Tupperware phenomenon of the 1950s, women lead the world of home-based business today.
That was apparent to anyone strolling through Oak Park Mall on Saturday. Out of 41 people promoting their enterprises at the Home-Based Business Expo, more than 90 percent were women.
With the economy still faltering, the turnout showed that the business model is popular in tough times.
A banner announcing “4 Meals in 4 Minutes” drew shoppers to Rebecca Voigt’s Homemade Gourmet Meals display.
“We specialize in meal planning with a variety of mixes and simple seasoning,” she said. “Just add meat, cook and put it in the freezer.”
Her business represents the most popular model for home businesses, based on a company, often an international corporation, that relies on local home-based outlets to market its products.
