Mother/Daughter Promote Pastime Through Business
The love of scrapbooking began for Jessica Stucki and her mom Suzanne Smith 15 years ago. It was through that passion that they went on to launch Scrap N Fanatics Inc., says the Idaho State Journal.
“We bought the store in 2005, sold it in 2007, and my mom bought it back again in 2009,” Stucki said.
Originally from Lake Tahoe, Calif., Stucki attended college in San Diego and moved to Pocatello five years ago. She and her husband, Tyler, have been married for four years and have a 1-year-old son, Van.
As her first scrapbooking project, Stucki completed her own baby book.
“My mom gave me all my stuff and it was really fun,” Stucki said. “I visited Germany with my mom when I was 18 months old. I don’t remember that, but now I have the scrapbook to remind me.”
Scrap N Fanatics offers Photoshop and photography courses, as well as scrapbooking classes. Every other Friday and Saturday, the store also hosts a “crop” for local scrapbook fanatics.
Stucki said the scrapbooking sessions, which run from 6 p.m. to midnight, include door prizes, games, refreshments and good company.
“We just all bring our stuff and scrapbook and eat and visit and stay up too late,” she said. “It’s just a fun, girl’s night out.”

This is a great way to start a business. You might consider marketing the product to athletes.
1) visit the high school and college athletic departments in the area and offer to create scrapbooks for all of the players during their sports season for a fee.
2)Set up a blog and go to out of town high school and college week sites and post your offerings on the athletic department page.
3. If you can build a group of clients outside your city, you can then subscribe to the sports magazines and local newspapers to get the material for the scrapbooks or you could subscribe to a clipping service. If the concept works right, this is where the real growth could come.
