Inventor Turned Patent Entrepreneur

Charlotte Business Journal:

Fred Wagner III has a nifty drilling apparatus he would like to sell to the highest bidder.

Called Tool-Pusher, it’s similar to a portable drill press for accurately making holes in steel, concrete and other products on a job site. So he’s taking it to the Invention and New Product Exposition near Pittsburgh in June in an effort to find a buyer.

He knows his chances of success aren’t great.

Wagner, chief executive of Little Idea, an invention development and licensing company in Charlotte, spends his days helping bring inventions to market.

“There are a lot of good ideas out there,” he says.

There are also plenty of companies that will promise to find buyers for inventions but will deliver nothing, Wagner says.

Last year, he started Little Idea as a way to advise inventors on their ideas. Services range from advice and engineering to patenting and marketing. Customers can pay by a contracted amount or by a set fee of $50 per hour.
