A 'Meat' And Greet For Men

LoHud.com:

With so many gender fests favoring women, where’s the equal time for men?

In response, there’s a not-so-secret society gathering at various locations in Rockland County. Men from all walks of life are following the smoke signals to monthly barbecues, where they kick back in folding chairs and rally ’round the grill to partake in the bacon-wrapped, beer-cozied, chrome-covered rituals of … the Man Cave.

In a culture in which Mary Kay, Tastefully Simple and other direct-sales companies cater to home parties for women, “Man Cave is finally doing it for men,” touts the official website.

Recently gathering for its regular meat-centric meeting — or a MEATing, as Man Cave calls it — in the male sanctuary that is the garage of Brian Colton’s Sloatsburg home, a dozen men convened for a MEATing to discuss smoked meats, oversized grill utensils and other manly things. Guy stuff.

“We’re always being given a hard time about going out,” joked Colton, an Emmy-winning TV production tech manager who became Rockland’s Man Cave adviser this year. “But this is a good thing. It’s a good excuse (on) a weekend to get together. You know, you hang out, you B.S., you drink some beers, and you grill up some meat.”

Founded in November 2008 by Nick Beste, a student at the University of Minnesota, Man Cave describes itself as a “company dedicated to letting men be men.”
