Don’t Let Employees at Big Companies Scare You

When exploring new business ideas, people often assume that just because something doesn’t exist that there’s no market. An often heard expression of this belief is:

If there was money to be made in this, Google (or whoever) would have released a product already.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Although large corporations might have hundreds of people working on bringing products that solve your particular problem to market they tend to have a bad case of tunnel vision and assume that every good idea possible is going to be developed in house using in house technologies and competencies. Since your competencies are obviously different from theirs, don’t let let your conversations with these kinds of people turn you off from building a great new mousetrap.
