Franchising Group Sees Tighter Competition

‎BusinessWorld Online:

A Singapore-based franchising group sees tighter competition among regional brands in the next few years as Southeast Asian countries integrate into a single consumer market.

The Franchising and Licensing Association (FLA) pointed to a jump in Asian participants for next month’s international exhibition on entrepreneurship, business opportunities, and intellectual property rights.

Francis Kong, FLA head for international development, told reporters in a press briefing Franchising and Licensing Asia (FLAsia) 2010 will feature over 250 brands on Oct. 21 in Singapore.

“[Despite the] worldwide economic contraction, FLAsia 2010 has seen a jump in exhibitors from Asian countries, with a 15% increase in size from local and regional participants as compared to last year, in line with World Trade Organization’s estimate that by 2020, 60% of global trade flows will be accounted for by Asia, replacing North America and Europe as centers of global trade,” the franchising body said in a press release.
