Direct Selling Attracts Existing Entrepreneurs

OregonLive.com:

If “clothes make the man,” then many would say that jewelry makes the woman.

Despite grim retail news, local entrepreneurs are finding a niche in direct selling of jewelry to women — offering the opportunity for their customers to spruce up their wardrobe affordably in a congenial atmosphere.

Emily Albert Taibl and Dina Foelker Snook, both 1995 graduates of West Linn High School, have embraced the au courant jewelry line Stella & Dot as a way to earn income while spending time together. Though Taibl now lives in Bellevue, Wash., the women joined forces in June to become Stella & Dot stylists in their communities. Taibl travels twice a month to visit Snook in West Linn so they can work on their business — sharing ideas and hosting shows together.

With six children between them, ranging from 5 months to 12 years, the women say their business is a wonderful opportunity to break out of “mom mode” and indulge their love of fashion. Both also have other ventures: Taibl works from home doing public relations and Snook owns four Papa Murphy’s stores in the Portland area. They have found that Stella & Dot’s direct-selling model allows them to maintain their other businesses while creating a new revenue stream that doubles as a social outlet.
