Lolliposh Brings Kids Consignment To South Florida
At a time when people seem to be tightening their purse strings, three women have created a consignment sale that has them opening those wallets back up.
Lina Uribe, Juliana Ruiz, and Alejandra Marrero-Brelage are the great minds behind Lolliposh, a seasonal consignment business that specializes in kid’s products. They offer South Florida parents an opportunity shop for kids clothes, toys, and other necessities for much less than they would pay at a regular boutique shop. It also offers parents a chance to sell anything their own kids might have outgrown. All items are either new, gently used, boutique, or brand name.
We recently spoke with Juliana Ruiz about Lolliposh, and what she felt new entrepreneurs should know.
Tell us a little about Lolliposh.
Lolliposh is a seasonal consignment sale and bazaar held every 6 months in South Florida. It is an event that offers local families the opportunity to make and save money by selling their items through consignment, and buying at a fraction of retail.
What inspired it?
As moms of small children, we were left with countless items our little ones outgrew that were in nearly perfect condition. We tried garage sales, eBay, Craigslist, and traditional consignment. We realized the need for a new, quicker and safer alternative.
What separates you from other children’s consignment businesses?
Consignors set their own prices and earn up to 75% of those prices. Unlike traditional consignment shops, we offer almost immediate gratification to our consignors, as they receive checks within 5 days of our sale. By participating in a Lolliposh event consignors are guaranteed that at least 1,000 people will see and hopefully purchase their items, in a 3 day time period.
During what months do you offer your sales?
October and April.
When do your next set of sales begin? Where?
April 7-9th, 2011, 6501 W. Sunrise Blvd Plantation Florida 33313
What goals do you hope to accomplish with your business in the next year or so?
We hope to expand Lolliposh into Miami Dade and into Western Florida. We are also expanding the Lolliposh brand to include Lolliposh Womens (a Special Event and Formal Wear Consigment Sale) and Lolliposh Home Goods (Home Decor and Accessories Consignment).
What are some lessons that your business has taught you?
To always expect the unexpected, and to put 150% of yourself into it. You can’t expect your business to grow unless you can put in the effort.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Become proficient in social media marketing, it’s the wave of the future, and extremely critical for new businesses.
Do you have any advice that you’d like to offer fellow entrepreneurs that are just getting started?
Go for it! Many entrepreneurs we’ve come across have analysis of paralysis. They know they want to do something but are to worried about the what ifs to move forward. Dive in, believe in yourself and your business, and NETWORK! It’s by far one of the most important and useful tools for growing your business and notoriety.
