App Helps Entertain Kids

Over in the Meadow Animated Storybook is an app from iMomConnect. One of its founders, Rupa Tak, told the Greenbay Press Gazette that their product is aimed at helping kids up to 12 years old learn to count and recognize animal sounds.

Tak said iMomConnect is focusing on moms with a fast-paced life.

“We wanted to do something that was easier for moms, but we wanted to do something that was educational, engaging and interactive,” she said. “Coming up with the animation and the things that make the apps unique requires a high level of creativity. It’s hard to keep children engaged.”

The storybook application – which Tak demonstrated on an iPad – boasts colorful animation and ambient sound as well as the printed text of the story. Readers are challenged to touch hidden numbers on each page and other animated features, such as a vibrating beehive.

Tak said after the birth of her son, Dhilan, she wanted to use her experience in business and finance to help children.

“We created this company to create child development apps on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad that help with the social, mental and physical development of children,” she said. “Every app we’re putting out has something different than what’s already out there.”
