Rich’s Favorite Things

I’ve saved the best for last. Here’s my last holiday gift idea and it’s one of the coolest things I’ve seen this year. The Parrot AR.Drone Quadricoptor.
It’s a little pricey at $300 bucks, but you do get free shipping.
As a sucker for gadgets and toys, learning about a helicopter whose mobility can be remotely controlled by a phone definitely piqued my James Bond jones.

The quadricoptor (quad referring to its four rotors) has two live-streaming video cameras (one down-facing and one front-facing) and can be controlled over Wi-Fi through an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
Tilting the phone (or iPod or iPad) forward, backward or side to side moves the Drone in that direction. The phone’s screen shows a live view of what the Drone sees at that moment, allowing the user to control the Drone when it’s out of view.
Great for those low fly-bys at the beach!
Have a safe and wonderful holiday season!

I saw that on Jay Leno. That is a pretty neat toy. I’m not sure whether the average person would have a use for it, but I can imagine a bunch of tech geeks loving one. :-) I don’t think $300 is a bad price considering how it works. People have spent more on much more useless stuff, so why not! Heck, at the very least people can spy on others for kicks.
