Changing The Way We Scroll On The Go

Grant Odgers is convinced that people on-the-go need his invention.

His device, of course, is a mini laptop mouse that can hold a charge for weeks. When it is not in use, the mouse snaps onto the USB dock that is plugged into the laptop, which is also how it manages to recharge. According to TVNZ, it was created out of his own frustration from using laptop mousepads.

Odgers told AMP Business he spent about a year researching patents and ensuring he could protect his intellectual property before testing prototypes at Canterbury University.

Swiftpoint had help [finding funding] through New Zealand’s Angel Investment Network which connects local entrepreneurs with both local and global angel investors.

The mouse is being manufactured in Bangkok and Odgers said the initial path to market is online, although they are moving into retailer channels and getting it into stores.

The mini mouse recently won an innovations award at a US trade show and this generated huge interest.

The company is now “selling lots to make enough to get next product out there”. Without giving too much away, Odgers told the programme this would be another mouse.
