Wireless + Duplex Printing + Cheap = $79 Laser Printer!
I’m in the market for a new laser printer. A HP LaserJet P2015 has served my home office faithfully for years, but now that little hands have grown long enough to reach up and open the paper tray for paper to color on, things are starting to break. First it was the paper feed mechanism. Then it was something else. I’ve managed to fumble everything back together so that it still prints, but it’s only a matter of time before something breaks that it is too advanced for me to repair.
This morning in my daily search for content, I saw a the headline Wireless? Check. Duplex? Check. Cheap? You Betcha! on Minimal Mac. In a post there, Patrick Rhone pointed out that you can get a Brother Printer HL2270DW Wireless Monochrome Printer on Amazon for $99. I saved the article for later reference and then pulled up the Amazon page to get my wife’s opinion. To my surprise, Amazon had dropped the price a further $20 to $79.
I have no idea how long this deal will last, but if you’re in the market for a duplex (double sided) printing black and white laser printer, this is a fantastic price.
The price of the printer should not be your only concern, though. Almost more important than the upfront price is the price of toner. The high-yield (2600 pages) genuine Brother toner (TN450) from Amazon is currently $46, which equates to about 1.8 cents per page.

That’s not too bad. I paid $135 for my HP Officejet (wireless, 3-in-one, etc.), and the ink cartridge turn over rate is 2 1/2 cents per page. However, I am attached to the 3-in-one feature, and it appears that one doesn’t have it. If you don’t need the extras, that isn’t bad at all!
Also, I just looked and it appears they have already started upping the price. It showed me $89.99.
