Mom’s Winning Recipe For Business

Mixing business with pleasure is not usually recommended, but for Celeste Bodnaryk it is okay. She has put together a recipe for chocolate cake balls that makes her business, Sphere-Licious, a success, reports The StarPhoenix.

The following recipe was a success for the winning Saskatoon Mompreneur. As she found, a small treat can have a big impact.

• Learn about cake balls, an emerging trend set to rival the cupcake. Bodnaryk said she started experimenting with recipes after a friend mentioned she was going to give them a try.

• After perfecting a recipe comprised of cake, icing and chocolate, get your family and friends hooked on the product. Obtain a business licence and find a commercial kitchen space. Then, cold-call a local catering company and prepare to fill an order for 6,000 cake balls.

• As your business starts to take off, don’t forget about your family. You are a Mompreneur, after all. Discuss strategy with spouse and, on those crazy days, call in grandparents and other relatives for help.

• Take what you’ve learned … and use it to enter a contest searching for the city’s best Mompreneur. Janine Senick, The Centre’s specialty leasing manager, said the competition is designed to celebrate entrepreneurial mothers.

• Win that contest with a mixture of business savvy and marketing style combined with a tasty product popular at weddings and corporate events.

Preparation Time: About 18 months, from hobby to business to build a solid foundation.

Serves: The community, your family and your sense of personal accomplishment.
