Convention Grabs Ideas From Kid Inventors

Cincinnati’s first Invention Convention recently brought together a group of kids with the mind to innovate. Everything from vitamin dispensers to motorized spaghetti forks were present. According to Cincinnati.com, the convention brought together a total of 80 students.

Dane Doebereiner, 10, of Maineville, walked away with the grand prize, a $2,500 college scholarship, for his toothbrush designed to brush teeth on three sides, simultaneously.

His inspiration?

“I’m always rushing downstairs to beat my brother to the Xbox,” he said, as he held his light bulb-shaped trophy. “But I still want to do a good job of brushing my teeth. This way, I can still do that.”

Of the young inventors who have participated in the convention, 13 have patents and four have been inducted into the National Gallery for America’s Young Inventors.

Each inventor is encouraged to think of ideas that will help the world. Other inventions that have won prizes at the conventions include shopping carts with brakes, fog-proof ski goggles, bicycle helmets with lighted turn signals, and crutches with pockets.

Dane said he wants to use his $2,500 scholarship at Miami University. When he grows up, “I want to be an inventor, and an actor,” he said.
