I like it. Lately it seems people are finding many new ways to make the average roof serve a new purpose. This one is home to a greenhouse. Some people grow grass on their roof. It is simply amazing. Since we seem to live in a world where everyone is building up, finding a purpose for the average roof is a great way to make up for some of the space lost due to developments.

I can’t imagine though that this is a very cost effective way to grow crops… I can get a tomato plant to grow with nothing more than a little dirt and some water, and I don’t have to transport the equipment onto the rooftop of a building in one of the biggest cities in the world. I wonder if Cindy can give us indication whether or not the produce from this company is more or less expensive than the greens that are trucked into the city. Cindy?

@Carlson: Hydroponic greenhouses are able to produce more tomatoes than field crops because it can use the greenhouse’s vertical spacing. As a common practice, hydroponic crops are usually pesticide-residue free, meaning they can command a higher price because consumers don’t like pesticides on their food.
