eCommerce Bytes:

Amazon.com subsidiary A9.com launched a new iPhone app that uses both barcode and image recognition to recognize tens of millions of products in a live camera view in a real world setting. Flow Powered by Amazon recognizes products, from books and DVDs to packaged electronics and toys, and the mobile app offers shoppers interactive product information.

Flow Powered by Amazon is available as a free download from the Apple App Store at www.itunes.com/appstore.

The irony is that Amazon’s OWN products (kindle fire) can’t run this app because IT DOESN’T HAVE A CAMERA!!!!

I really want this for my Blackberry.

In addition to what anonymouse said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Amazon’s next “tablet/reader” did have a camera. They could also make an app version that accepted the numbers typed in instead of scanned.
