Some weeks into her chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer, Ramona Freedman felt deliriously ill. Nevertheless, the world kept buzzing around her.

One afternoon, with the house in chaos and the cupboards bare, it all seemed too much.

”I had no food,” she says. ”It was the Jewish Sabbath and normally you prepare food in advance. I just got a little derailed.”
