American Minerva 1

On this date in 1793, New York City’s first daily newspaper was established by Noah Webster. The paper was published, under a number of different names, until 1923.

Originally called “American Minerva”, it was renamed the Commercial Advertiser in 1797. In 1904, it became the The New York Globe and was published until 1923, when it was purchased and merged into the New York Sun).
