The Chinese Oreo Cookie

NPR:
Everyone knows what an Oreo cookie is supposed to be like. It’s round, black and white, and intensely sweet. Has been for 100 years. But sometimes, in order to succeed in the world, even the most iconic product has to adapt.
In China, that meant totally reconsidering what gives an Oreo its Oreoness.
But, what’s the problem with an Oreo cookie? Turns out, that unless you grew up with an emotional attachment to the cookie, they taste weird!

That looks an awful lot like those Oreo cookie straws. I can only find the Kraft Canada page for them, but I have seen them at Walmart. They taste good. :-)

I’m not sure why the author is trying to make this product seem like a new thing. Oreo has been selling these here in China for quite some time. The original Oreo cookie, along with several different flavored of filling (chocolate, peanut butter, vanilla, mint, and now berry and orange flavors) all enjoy a decent amount of popularity in China, so much so that there are several rip-off versions. I honestly think the author doesn’t know much about us.
