Art Van Plans Expansion

Art Van Furniture Inc. plans to court the top furniture retailers in about 20 of Michigan’s smaller markets in a bid to have them become franchisees.

The Warren-based company is looking at markets with the potential for a store to bring in annual sales of $3 million to $5 million, said CEO Kim Yost.

That would include markets such as Alpena, Gaylord, Mt. Pleasant, Cadillac and the Upper Peninsula.

“Our No. 1 priority is to take existing furniture retailers in those markets and (rebrand) them to Art Van,” Yost said.

If Art Van can’t convert the largest local retailer in those markets to a franchisee, it will look to sign up the second-largest retailer and help it take dominant market share, he said. Read more.
