MacGregor’s To Replace Anchor Sports Bar In East End

Rochester Democrat and Chronicle:

The Anchor Sports Bar and Grill, which opened in Rochester’s East End in 2009 as a franchisee of the famous Buffalo chicken-wing landmark, has closed.

The popular MacGregor’s Grill and Tap Room chain will take over the spot.

Richard Carvotta, owner of MacGregor’s, which has outlets in Henrietta, Penfield, Gates, Canandaigua and Amherst, Erie County, said Tuesday he’s hoping for a May opening at the former Anchor, which was located at 355 East Ave. and was part of the busy and sometimes controversial East and Alexander bar scene.

“We’re taking the Anchor and the (Scene Ultra Lounge NY) nightclub next door, though for the time being we’ll use the Anchor spot only,” Carvotta said. “This is an opportunity that’s arisen and we’re looking forward to coming back to Rochester. We had a MacGregor’s on Gregory Street in the South Wedge for years.”
