Placenta Encapsulation

Babies may not come with instruction manuals, but Jodi Selander will tell you-they come with a powerful life preserver for the mother.

Jodi didn’t set out to be the woman who built a global network of professional Placenta Encapsulation Specialists, but after finding a natural way to ward off her baby blues by consuming her own placenta and then learning the ancient Chinese craft of drying the placenta and turning it into capsules, her life hasn’t been the same.

“I suffered from depression for years, and was on antidepressant medication when I became pregnant with my first daughter,” Jodi says. “I was advised to stay on my medication throughout my pregnancy due to the risk factors for postpartum depression. During that pregnancy, I had heard that the placenta was useful for postpartum recovery, it was just not something I could EVER see myself doing.”

Her second pregnancy involved no depression medication and her post-baby days were entirely depression free which she credits to placenta consumption. “Your own body, and the miracle of pregnancy and birth itself, provides it to you. It is a simple and natural solution that involves taking a few capsules a day for a few weeks postpartum,” Jody explains. Medical experts say that when the placenta is gone, women are left without hormone production or regulation for a couple days up to a couple weeks, but scientific proof of its benefits remain elusive. “Your own body, and the miracle of pregnancy and birth itself, provides it to you,” says Jodi. “It is a simple and natural solution that involves taking a few capsules a day for a few weeks postpartum.”
