Paris Loves Its US Franchises, So I Discovered

I am just back from a week in Paris. As a franchise lawyer, I couldn’t help but notice familiar U.S. chains along the winding streets of this beautiful city. According to the European Franchise Federation, France has become the largest franchising market in Europe with 1,369 brands as of September 2010.

Even in my backpacking student days, McDonald’s was hugely popular throughout Europe. Its first European location opened in 1979. Not surprisingly, there are many McDonald’s dotted throughout Paris, even on the expensive Boulevard Saint-Germain, and there are also Subways, KFCs, Pizza Huts and Starbucks. As more and more Parisians are shortening their lunch breaks, the fast food culture is becoming increasingly popular and is also economical, especially for the younger generation. Full post.
